The employment data presented above represents the number of people employed by businesses/organisations in each of the industry sectors in a defined region. The employment data presented is destination of work data; no inference is made as to where people in a defined region reside. The employment data represents total numbers of employees without any conversions to full-time equivalence.
Place of Work is coded from the workplace address question on the Census form and relates to where the person worked in the week prior to Census Night. The industry sectors describe the industries in which employed people aged 15 years and over work. Industries are coded using the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industry Classification (ANZSIC) 2006. A person's industry of employment was classified based on responses to a range of Census questions which ask for a description of the business, and the main goods produced, or main services provided. The name of the business, the employed person's occupation and main tasks and duties, may also have assisted the classification of industry of employment.

All figures, data and commentary presented in this software are based on data sourced from the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS), most of which relates to the 2016, 2011, 2006 and 2001 Censuses, and other government agencies.
Using ABS datasets and an input / output methodology industrial economic data estimates for defined geographic regions are generated.
