Box Hill is booming ….. “The Gateway to the East”

Box Hill (map) is one of the largest Metropolitan Activity Centres in Melbourne and firmly established as the pre-eminent growth centre for the eastern suburbs. Box Hill has a long history of public and private investment and its growth is diverse across all sectors including health, education, retail, commercial development and housing.

Located in the picturesque eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Box Hill is less than 15 kilometres from the CBD and approximately half-way between the city and the urban fringe at the Dandenong Ranges.Box Hill is a vibrant and diversified employment hub, specialising in government, professional services, education, health and community services. It is estimated that there are approximately 26,000 jobs (full time, part time and casual) as well as approximately 64,770 domestic students at Box Hill Institute. It is also the busiest transport hub in the eastern suburbs and includes two trains lines, tram and 21 bus routes.

Box Hill is home to more than 4,000 residents, in the activity centre alone, with a high level of cultural diversity and a considerable proportion born overseas, in particular China. Box Hill is fast becoming the epicenter for Asian culture in Melbourne and is a renowned destination for Asian food, specialty goods, services and education. The Victorian Government has designated Box Hill as a place of State Strategic Significance for delivering jobs, investment and productivity, both as a Metropolitan Activity Centre and a Health/Education precinct.
