The Warren Shire (map) is located 540km north-west of Sydney and 120km from Dubbo. Including the town of Warren and villages of Collie and Nevertire, there is a population of approximately 2,900 people. The region is economically dependent on agriculture, particularly sheep and cattle grazing, as well as wheat, oat and cotton growing. In addition to those directly employed within the industry, agriculture creates significant economic benefits that flow on to all other industries. Agriculture is the largest employment sector followed by health care and social assistance, the retail sector, public administration and safety and education and training.
